RITCHIE MARKET

The Ritchie Market is a neighbourhood-focused, multi-use building containing local Edmonton businesses. Currently featured within the building are a butcher, a brewery, a coffee shop, and an artisanal bake shop. The building was envisioned as a walkable and bike-friendly, mature-neighbourhood improvement and hoped to influence the revitalization of commercial zones in other established neighbourhoods, improving the quality of life for Edmontonians.

Clark Engineering was retained as mechanical engineer of record for the building due to our history of energy efficient, cost effective, practical mechanical system design solutions. The mechanical system at Ritchie Market features:

  • Variable speed kitchen ventilation – ventilation speed depends upon cooking activities, saving energy during less intensive cooking times
  • Combined heat and power system – local production of power with the utilisation of waste heat
  • Distributed heat pump system – movement of heat from heat generating spaces to heated spaces. Use of combined heat and power unit waste heat for space heating
  • Heat recovery ventilation – recover heat from exhaust streams to preheat the fresh air ventilation
  • High ventilation, low speed fan – gentle breeze to provide a perceived cooling to reduce space cooling requirements

Ritchie Market has been in operation since 2017.
