BEV FACEY MECHANICAL SYSTEMS REPLACEMENT

Bev Facey Community High School in Sherwood Park, AB is part of Elk Island Public Schools and is a large high school providing approximately 1100 students with a wide diversity of programming. The school has an automotive facility, carpentry classroom, a functional greenhouse, and traditional classroom spaces.

In 2017, Clark Engineering was retained to provide evaluation and design services for the replacement of failing dual-duct heating and ventilation systems serving the High School. Clark Engineering was to review the system and develop a plan to replace the failing heating and ventilation systems. Findings:

  • The original Lennox dual-duct air handling systems were in poor condition, failing often, and requiring significant and ongoing maintenance
  • The ductwork was in poor condition and a significant amount required replacement

Improvements were suggested and implemented as follows:

  • VAV air handling systems to replace the dual duct systems, including new distribution ductwork and VAV boxes
  • Installation of a new high-efficiency boiler system to provide heating for the AHU and VAV box heating coils
  • A new digital building management controls system to automatically operate the new equipment in an energy efficient manner

Phase 1 of the mechanical system retrofit was completed in 2019 with Phase 2 to occur in 2020 and Phase 3 in 2021.
